Here are 10 things we can do to help keep flying possible for the skilled pilots who may want to fly here:
1: PLEASE LAND 25 TO 30 FEET AWAY FROM EVERYONE ON THE BEACH: We lost the ability to land on the beach for 4 month last year. If someone is selfish and doesn't care about the sport, they will sometimes land close to people, (and even have the kite touch people). If this is done to 10 people, 1 or 2 out of ten can be furious and could follow through and get our landing site
some people have been given 200 dollar tickets, it is selfish to just land near people and pay the ticket: this behavior can make all paraglider un popuilar, and the beach can get closed to all flyers
2: Please keep 10 feet away from all houses: The homeowners own all of the dry beach, they have the right to enforce the high tide rule (only allowing people to use the beach that is wet at highest tide. The homeowners are being gracious to let everyone have all the dry beach up to within 10 feet of the house.
If we give the homeowners 10 feet. and use the rest of the beach, that helps keep up popular with the homeowners
3: Please stay on the sidewalks in front of peoples houses: Please fold your kites on the beach: Please do not fold your kites on homeowners front porches or driveways: The homeowners have security alarms that go off when someone is within 7 feet of their garage doors: please only use the sidewalk and if you need more room, please use less than 1/3 of the driveway that is closest to sidewalk. The owners have us several times to give them space: Lets enjoy Paragliding and s
4: Please make sure your Uber or Lyft is not blocking a bike lane: It is dangerous and selfish for Drivers to block the bike lane, some even block parts of PCH. Put pressure on your Driver to not block the street. if we have drivers blocking the bike lanes we look selfish and it makes the paragliding sport look rude. .
5: Please keep at least 60 feet above PCH when you cross over: The higher you are, the less imposing we are for cars: We all know that if some pilot comes in at 15 or 20 feet above PCH that it will distract cars and even make some people feel disoriented or panic: it looks like a person is parachuting safely to the ground from a mayday, and they might land on the road: 90 percent of people believe the parachutes travel down, and are falling, few have seen a steerable parachute
6 Please do not fly close to houses: if you have to for safety, then fly where your are safe, b ut please plan you descent so you are not running too close
7. Please do not cut any bushes or clear any trails: Please just respect the wilderness, There is an expression "the straw that breaks the camels back". Please do not think about "increasing" the trails or takeoff spots even 1 or 2 percent. We have had many, many many many complaints, and last year we lost 4 takeoff spots. Please help us by enjoying what we have so far and not pushing our luck. We do not want to have the sport completbanned by powerful land owners.
8. Please tell your uber driver that the small roads are zoned for horses and hikers, and then tip them 2 or 3 dollars and ask them to pease drive back slowly:, Please remember: the uber divers almost alway drive on level ground, and get new customers very close to where they drop off people: but at malibu, they are driving on steep hills, spending 3 to 4 times mere gas that flat, and have no customers up at the top of malibu: that is why Ubers race off after they drop you off
9: if you ever land short of the beach, please gather your wing right away: if you don't, then it looks like an emergency landing, and a possible injury, and a helicopter or rescue personnel can be called in, and make Paragliding look bad
10. if you have to make an emergency landing, look for a place that is very safe to land, even if it is a longer hike back to roads: Please help safety for yourself and all others: if one place is closer to the road but les safe, take the safer landing and take the longer hike: both of them are good for you, and good for the sport
